The Reading Education program at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development prepares educators to become responsive, skilled, and thoughtful teachers of reading and literacy. Designed for licensed teachers, our program gives students a deep and thorough understanding of the theory, research, and practice that underlie the successful teaching of reading and writing.
Through course offerings and practicums, students in the Reading Education program will learn to critically examine children’s and young adult literature, how to support multilingual learners, and more. Master’s students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working as reading and writing teachers in high-need urban schools. Students can also draw on and engage with a wide range of resources during their time in our program, including some of our research centers and institutes.
Boston University’s Reading Education program offers several options for educators, including a master’s degree and two certificate options.
