The Reading & Literacies Education program at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development prepares educators to become responsive, skilled, and thoughtful teachers of reading and literacy. Designed for licensed teachers, our program gives students a deep and thorough understanding of the theory, research, and practice that underlie the successful teaching of reading and writing.
Through course offerings and practicums, students in the Reading & Literacies Education program will learn to critically examine children’s and young adult literature, how to support multilingual learners, and more. Master’s students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working as reading and writing teachers in high-need urban schools. Students can also draw on and engage with a wide range of resources during their time in our program, including some of our research centers and institutes.
Boston University’s Reading & Literacies Education program offers several options for educators, including a master’s degree and two certificate options.
