The Elementary Education program at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development prepares aspiring educators with a solid grounding in theory and practice, as well as the opportunity to seek initial teaching licensure. Students who complete the Elementary Education program are ready to lead their future classrooms confidently and with skill.

Drawing on a solid base of scholarly evidence and the expertise of our faculty, potential teachers will learn to bring out the best in their students as they navigate elementary school. Our culturally sustaining practices allow educators to cover topics like mathematics, literacy, science, and social studies in a sensitive manner that acknowledges students’ diverse skills, abilities, and backgrounds. The Elementary Education program is committed to teaching for social justice and disrupting inequality based in white supremacy, anti-Blackness, cis-heteronormative patriarchy, ableism, and dominant English monolingualism.

Boston University offers a master’s degree in elementary education with two specializations: grades 1–6 with initial licensure, and initial licensure and special education.
