
Catherine Xinyu Liao
Doctoral Student
Catherine Xinyu Liao is a doctoral student in applied human development at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her research interests focus on positive identity formation and identity negotiation among BIPOC youth. She aims to create culturally-responsive, action-oriented resources that empower BIPOC youth and equip the adults in their lives to better support their identity development.
Catherine started her career in education as a secondary urban school teacher in Providence, Rhode Island. She believes that her students are the ones who inspired and motivated her to embark on her journey of educational research. She hopes to honor their experience by conducting research and designing tools that are co-created with and for the communities they aim to serve.
