Volunteer, Potential for UROP Funding

Overview

We are looking for undergraduate research assistants to support research on responsible AI and its impact on adoption and downstream decision-making, with emphasis on healthcare applications. Possible directions include how traditional ML models and LLMs behave under uncertainty, and how model interpretability, stability, and robustness affect whether AI systems can be trusted and used in operational decisions. Exact tasks will depend on the student’s background and the needs of the project.

Note: Please review the requirements below before applying. To be considered, applicants will be asked to complete a short onboarding assignment, which will help assess fit and may contribute to the project.

Applicants must satisfy the following:

  • Current student in Data Science, Computer Science, Systems/Electrical Engineering, Business (Business Analytics, Operations, or Information Systems), Economics, or a related field. Applicants outside these areas must explicitly explain why their background is relevant.
  • Junior or senior undergraduate, or graduate at the time of application.
  • Ability to commit for at least 1 year and at least 20 hours per week.
  • Demonstrated experience with ML libraries and pipelines in Python. Comfortable using GitHub and standard research/code workflows.

Strong pluses:

  • Prior research experience, such as a UROP, research internship, thesis, or faculty-led project.
  • Interest in pursuing a PhD.

The project will involve:

  • Weekly check-ins and progress reports.
  • Research code and experiment development.
