Important: 20-Hour Work Restriction Reinstated August 1
As a reminder, the 20-hour-per-week work restriction for student employees was reinstated in JobX on Friday, August 1.
Please keep this restriction in mind when submitting late summer hires, as JobX will now automatically enforce the 20-hour limit.
To clarify:
- This does not impact current summer hires. Students eligible to work up to 40 hours per week may continue to do so through Sunday, August 31, which marks the end of the 40-hour work limit period.
- The 20-hour restriction applies only to new hires processed for the fall semester moving forward.
- However, PhD students typically should not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic semester or University break periods. Please follow the University practices on graduate student hiring when employing master’s and professional degree or PhD graduate workers.
Why are we sharing this information?
Due to system limitations, JobX can only enforce one rule for maximum student work hours at any given time. The temporary 40-hour allowance was in place to support summer hiring. Once the system reverts to the 20-hour limit, any new submissions exceeding that threshold will trigger an error message.
If you anticipate any special circumstances or require support with hiring submissions, we strongly encourage you to contact our office to avoid processing delays.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation as we transition into the new academic term.
