Physical Therapy Department Presents at APTA Combined Sections Meeting
The Department of Physical Therapy presented at the annual American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting, held in Houston this year. Faculty delivered symposiums, platform, and poster presentations, showcasing the impactful and innovative work from the department.
During the event, many faculty were recognized for their contributions to the profession:
- Franchino Porciuncula, James Cavanaugh, Jenna Zajac, Nick Wendel, Teresa Baker, Dheepak Arumukhom Revi, Nicole Eklund, Mary Beth Holmes, Lou Award and Terry Ellis received the “best overall platform” by the Degenerative Disease Special Interest Group of the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy for their presentation, “Amplifying Real-World Walking in Parkinson’s Disease through Autonomous Music-Based Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation: Randomized Controlled Trial.”
- Teresa Baker, Nick Wendel, Christina Lee, Chih-Kang Change, Andrew Chin, Nicole Eklund, Franchino Porciuncula, Lou Awad, Conor Walsh and Terry Ellis won first place for “best poster” in the Technology in Physical Therapy Special Interest Group for their poster, “Soft Robotic Apparel Reduces Freezing of Gait during Turning and Daily Activities in Parkinson Disease.”
- Caleigh O’Brien won an award for most items created for the Orthopedic Specialization Examination. Out of 60 writers for the Exam, Caleigh wrote the most items that were accepted and will be included on the next cycle of exams.
