Faculty Honored for Service and Teaching Excellence
Two faculty were honored at the 2019 Sargent College Commencement Ceremony for their commitment to service and teaching excellence.
Joan Salge Blake, clinical associate professor of nutrition received the Whitney R. Powers Award for Teaching Excellence.
This award recognizes an outstanding member of the Sargent faculty and is named in honor of Sargent Professor Emeritus Whitney R. Powers, a former Health Sciences Department chair who for more than 25 years shared his gifts as an outstanding educator.
In her award nominations, Blake was for praised for innovative teaching practices and many achievements using media to educate a broad range of learners on nutrition and health.
Michelle Mentis, clinical professor in the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences was honored with the faculty Award of Merit.
This award recognizes a professor who has made impactful service contributions benefiting programs, faculty, students, and/or alumni of Sargent College.
Program director for the master’s in speech-language pathology program, Mentis is a dedicated clinician, celebrated teacher, and respected faculty member.
