Reimbursement Analysis and Strategy Guidance

Larchmont Strategic Advisors offers guidance and support to BU researchers via one-on-one tutoring, and assists with the demystifying of medical technology reimbursement and other strategic questions critical to the commercial prospects and success of new enterprises emerging from BU research.

About the Program

A senior healthcare executive with more than 35 years of experience in life science and medical technology reimbursement analysis, planning and advocacy, Ed Berger founded Larchmont Strategic Advisors in 2005 to help early-stage companies deal effectively with the strategic challenges and opportunities posed by the rapidly evolving healthcare regulatory and policy environment. Building upon the knowledge and experience gained as a member of the senior management teams of such companies as Fresenius Medical Care, Thermo Cardiosystems, and Abiomed, Dr. Berger has provided reimbursement analysis and strategy development consultation to a variety of clients developing new technologies across the entire life sciences spectrum – devices and diagnostics, medical instrumentation, pharma and biotech.

Dr. Berger can serve as a guide, providing one-on-one tutoring and serving as a sounding board, empowering, and assisting you as you address reimbursement and related strategic questions critical to the commercial prospects and success of a new enterprise:

  • What obstacles and opportunities does the US health care reimbursement system pose for your product concept?
  • Is there an existing billing code that is appropriate? If not, how do you procure one and how long will it take to do so? How will payment be set and will it be adequate to support a business?
  • Will insurers be willing to pay for your product; what will it take to convince them?
  • How can you coordinate clinical, regulatory and reimbursement strategies to achieve the shortest possible time to revenue?

It is never too early in the enterprise or product development lifecycle to assure a “phase-appropriate” understanding of these issues and to integrate that understanding into a comprehensive business plan.
