Undergraduate Philosophy Association

The Undergraduate Philosophy Association hosts a weekly, informal student-led discussion group every Tuesday at 6:00 in STH 525. The group is intended to be a place where students can explore philosophical ideas outside of the classroom in a welcoming atmosphere. Each week, a student introduces a concept or asks a question of interest; discussion usually lasts until 7:30 or 8, or until the participants are too tired to continue. Past topics include: individual rights and government; Ayn Rand’s objectivisim vs. Kant’s categorical imperative; and the existence of absolutes. Graduate students and professors are welcome to attend, but undergraduates are especially encouraged to participate. To request a topic, a chance to lead a discussion, or for more information, contact the UPA at buupa@bu.edu, or the president, Ted Stinson, at hstinson@bu.edu. BU’s undergraduate philosophy journal, Arche, can be found on the web at www.bu.edu/arche
