Biography

Kathy Fields Povoas is the founder of STACCS and provides strategic advice and transaction support to companies and investors as they execute on growth and liquidity opportunities, Ms. Fields Povoas currently serve on several boards and also is a senior advisor at JMI Equity, a growth equity firm focused on investing in leading software companies, and an Executive-in-Residence for IU Ventures.

Ms. Fields Povoas was previously a general partner, as well as general counsel and chief compliance officer at JMI Equity. Prior to that Ms. Fields Povoas was a partner in the corporate, private equity and technology companies groups at Goodwin Procter for 8 years in Boston and Silicon Valley and prior to that she was a partner in the business practice group at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault in Boston.

Ms. Fields Povoas holds a JD from Stanford Law School and bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business.

This course covers the foundations of corporate finance. It starts with the concepts of time value of money, discounting, and present value. With that background it then considers the major financial decisions made by corporate managers. Topics include the valuation of financial assets and liabilities, criteria for making investment decisions, business valuation, relationships between risk and return, portfolio theory, market efficiency, capital structure choice, and cost of capital.
