Law Complex: Redstone Building & Law Tower
Modern facility recognized for sustainability features
The law school complex encompasses the Sumner M. Redstone Building, a nearly 100,000-square-foot, five-story classroom building that opened in 2014, and the 17-story law tower, which re-opened in 2015 after a complete renovation. The facility has been awarded LEED Gold certification for its many sustainability features and recognized for its architectural significance by the Boston Preservation Alliance and the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
Sumner M. Redstone Building
The Redstone Building houses the Samuel M. Fineman Law Library adjacent to the existing Pappas Law Library, welcomes visitors into the glass-enclosed Robert T. Butler Atrium that serves as the heart and social hub of the building, and features a second floor dining facility and seating area in McCausland Commons with floor-to-ceiling views of the Charles River. The new building provides convenient study spaces, gathering areas for students, and student lockers on each floor, as well as new facilities to support clinical, transactional, and professional training programs.
The Redstone Building faces a paved entry forecourt off the main east-west pedestrian path, which has been landscaped with trees and plantings and features angular benches that complement the design of the building. The space between the law tower and Pappas Law Library has been redesigned to emphasize the visual connection between the original and new entrances to the School.
Law Tower
The law tower, a leading example of Brutalist architecture, was built in 1964 and completely renovated in 2015. The lower floors contain Barristers Hall, Pappas Law Library, a student organizations suite, law journal offices, courtrooms and transactional law seminar rooms, and the Offices of the Registrar, Student Affairs, and Information Systems & Technology.
On the upper floors, you will find the Career Development & Public Service Office and CDO interview rooms, Communications & Marketing, LLM program offices, Dean’s Office, Development & Alumni Relations, Clinical & Advocacy Programs, Admissions & Financial Aid, faculty offices, and law journal offices. At the Law School’s main entrance, the Redstone Building welcomes visitors into the glass-enclosed Robert T. Butler Atrium that serves as the heart and social hub of the building. This new addition to the School, opened in 2014, adds a host of first-class facilities and features.
The second and third floors feature the Samuel M. Fineman & Pappas Law Libraries, a dining facility, and a seating area in McCausland Commons with floor-to-ceiling views of the Charles River. Convenient study spaces, gathering areas for students, and student lockers are located throughout the building. There are dedicated facilities for our transactional and legal writing programs, as well as new courtrooms, classrooms, and seminar rooms.
