AI at BU Law
Boston University Law School is preparing students for the growing role of AI in legal practice. The BU Law AI Program will provide the curriculum, training, and tools necessary for future legal professionals to learn how to use artificial intelligence skillfully and wisely, preparing them for the AI-enabled legal practice of the future. Students will receive hands-on instruction in the use of advanced, law-focused AI platforms—such as Harvey, Claude, and other emerging technologies—alongside foundational coursework in legal writing, research, and analysis. They will also be trained to recognize the risks of AI, including issues like bias, inaccuracy, and confidentiality. Through hands-on experience, students will develop the judgment and skills needed to use AI responsibly in real-world legal settings.
Through a new partnership with Legora and its Legal AI Scholars Program, BU Law students will also have early access to emerging AI tools, specialized training, and hands-on experience using the same leading AI tools widely adopted in large law firms, further strengthening their readiness to navigate and lead in an AI-driven legal profession.
This work builds on Boston University’s major, university-wide commitment to advancing artificial intelligence. Through the AI Development Accelerator (AIDA), BU is making significant investments in interdisciplinary research, faculty recruitment, advanced computing infrastructure, and innovative AI education across schools and colleges. That foundation strengthens BU Law’s efforts, ensuring that our students learn in an environment where cutting-edge AI development is actively shaping scholarship, practice, and policy.
