Regalia for Participating in Commencement
CAPS, GOWNS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
In order to participate in the in-person May 18th Commencement ceremony, you will need University-approved regalia. Barnes & Noble at Boston University is the approved supplier for caps and gowns to graduates. Bachelor’s and master’s candidates purchase their keepsake regalia sets and doctoral candidates rent theirs.
All orders must be placed online, and the order site is will open at the beginning of the Spring Semester. Ordering options include home delivery and campus pickup options. It is highly recommended that all orders are placed as soon as possible to avoid processing and transit delays.
DEADLINES
March 23: Order your cap & gown by March 23 for on campus pickup. (Campus pickup orders will be available beginning May 4 at the BU Campus Store)
March 27: Custom-made regalia orders may be placed at any time, but to ensure arrival by Commencement, orders must be made by this deadline.
April 1: Doctoral Candidates: Cap & gown orders must be placed by April 1. (Rental Cap & Gowns will not be available to order after April 1.)
May 4: Campus pick up orders available at the BU Campus Store.
Important Updates & Reminders:
- All students should be recommended to order as soon as possible and by March 23rd.
- Doctoral Rental Gowns – Graduating students must order online by April 1st. All rented doctoral regalia must be returned by May 28th to avoid replacement charges.
- Campus pickup rental regalia needs to be returned to Barnes & Noble at BU by May 28th.
- Home shipped rental regalia comes with a return label to return directly to Herff Jones by June 1st.

Students who object to these images on their regalia may request patches that will fully cover the existing patches. To ensure we have sufficient supplies, we request that you request these in advance. It is our understanding that BU is able to provide patches to as many students as may need them, it would be especially helpful to gauge interest in advance. To request patches, please email lawevent@bu.edu by May 1st. Patches will be available for pickup in office 1003 the week of May 13th while supplies last. To make a request, please email lawevent@bu.edu by May 1st.
