Immigration Processing for New Graduate Students
Your application indicates that you are an international applicant, neither a U.S. Citizen nor a U.S. Permanent Resident. The staff of theInternational Students & Scholars Office (ISSO) will be able to help you with your visa application to support your studies. All international applicants (regardless of immigration status) are required to submit the following in PDF format:
- Completed and signed International Student Data Form (ISDF)
- Copy of the biographical page of your passport
- Copies of documentation demonstrating your financial support for tuition, fees and living expenses if you are requesting BU student immigration sponsorship.
- If you are travelling to the U.S. as a new international student, you will need a student visa to enter the U.S. Upon receipt of all required documents from your admissions department, the ISSO will review your records, and issue an immigration document to facilitate your studentvisa application at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country.
- If you are already in the U.S. in student status, you will also need to submit copies of all of your U.S. immigration documents detailing your U.S. immigration history. Upon receipt of all required documents from your admissions department, the ISSO will review your records and issue you an immigration document after you have completed your current program. The ISSO staff has prepared helpful information for current BU students beginning a new program, and students who will transfer their SEVIS record to BU .
- If you are already in the U.S. in any other nonimmigrant status, you will also need to submit copies of all of your U.S. immigration documents detailing your U.S. immigration history. Please refer to the International Student Data Form (ISDF) for more information. Upon receipt of allrequired documents from your admissions department, the ISSO will review your records and advise you on next steps to facilitate your enrollment.
- If you intend to bring a dependent family member (spouse, or a child under the age of 21) to the U.S. with you, please be sure to include the biographical information of each dependent in the Family Information section of the International Student Data Form (ISDF) and submit the following:
- Copy of the biographical page of each dependent’s passport
- Financial documentation referencing additional funding to cover the living expenses of each dependent (see required financial documentation)
