GCI Welcomes Three New Fellows

We are thrilled to announce that three new Research Fellows have joined our team! Xia Li, Nashira Chavez, and Pedro Henrique Barbosa will be working on the GDP Center’s Global China Initiative.

Xia is a Ph.D. candidate in the Strategy & Innovation Department at the Questrom School of Business, Boston University, and a research fellow with the Global China Initiative. She specializes in corporate sustainability, climate change, and innovation. Her dissertation examines firms’ strategic responses to physical climate risks.

Nashira Chavez holds a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami. Her research interests in the fields of foreign policy, security issues, and Latin American politics. Her current research agenda takes a different angle to the study of the material relations of China-Latin America by also discussing the strength of ideas. Along these lines, her work examines Chinese strategic narratives to the Latin American audience via media outlets. Specifically, it explores the main elements of Beijing’s communication actions to Latin America through Chinese media in Spanish and the manner it actively resorts to narratives to shape its image in the region.

Pedro Henrique Barbosa is a Ph.D. candidate at the School of International Studies at the Renmin University of China, in Beijing. He specializes in Brazil-China political-economic relations, focusing mainly on four pillars: trade, investments, infrastructure projects, and loans. He is currently investigating the bilateral energy cooperation.
