Our Purpose

We promote community development by encouraging accountability and ethical decision-making. Whether engaging with the office through educational opportunities, or participating in the conduct process, our goal is to build and instill a commitment to social responsibility, constructive conflict resolution, and interpersonal competence ─ skills that support students’ academic and personal success.

STUDENT CONDUCT

OSCCR (pronounced ‘Oscar’) adjudicates allegations of nonacademic misconduct as delineated in the Code of Student Responsibilities (Code), a set of guiding principles and behavioral expectations. The expectations set forth in the Code emphasize integrity, self-discipline, and personal responsibility. The Code reflects the University’s commitment to fairness, protecting students’ rights, and to promoting a safe and supportive learning community built on mutual trust and respect.

CONDUCT RECORDS

OSCCR maintains non-academic student disciplinary records in accordance with the University’s Record Retention Policy. Reportable sanctions are disclosed, with the student’s written permission, in response to both internal University and external inquiries. Authorized inquiries are often in conjunction with students’ plans to transfer to another college or university, gain admission to graduate or professional school, study abroad, or secure employment, internship, and some leadership positions. See Accessing Student Conduct Records for instructions and additional information.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

OSCCR offers conflict coaching, facilitated discussions, restorative conferences, and peer mediation training to equip students with the information, skills, and confidence to constructively resolve conflicts on their own. Eligible students are guided through active listening, framing, and rephrasing exercises in programs ranging from ninety minutes to four hours. By introducing mediation concepts in a small-group format, students discover an appreciation for the power and benefits of collaborative problem solving.

OFF-CAMPUS SERVICES

Off-Campus Services, a unit within OSCCR, offers information, advice, and referrals on a variety of issues, including conducting an apartment search and considerations before signing a lease.
