Marathon Monday
The following was sent to all students on Friday, April 18, 2025 from Dean Jason Campbell-Foster
Terriers,
For 129 years, our city has come alive to celebrate the feat of human perseverance and spirit that the Boston marathon represents. Weaving right through our backyard, the marathon is a time to kick back with friends before the inevitable whirlwind of finals as the semester comes to an end. Take this weekend to take a breath and have fun.
With that said, having fun also includes using common sense. BU students are not the only people that inhabit this city, so please keep in mind:
- The marathon is a community event with visitors from around the world. Don’t let poor behavior ruin it for everyone else. The city is taking extra precautions this year to ensure this remains a safe, family-friendly gathering. No more G-Court (or any court, for that matter) shenanigans.
- Drink lots of water, enjoy plenty of food, and know your limits with alcohol.
- If you do consider having friends over or attending a gathering, be aware. Noise, overcrowding or public drinking will have consequences. Safety considerations – like overcrowded porches, street blocking – will also be addressed (so don’t do it).
- There are building codes for a reason. Stay off roofs, don’t crowd decks, and please, keep your entire selves inside the windows.
- Be a respectful neighbor and refrain from blasting your tunes.
- The City of Boston wants you to be safe, too!
Lastly, and most importantly, take care of yourself and your fellow Terriers. Turn over your Terrier card for some important phone numbers if you need help. We have a Good Samaritan Policy for a reason.
As you make your plans, consider stopping by for the annual BU Does the Marathon watch party at the corner of Beacon St and Park St! Make some noise to cheer on the runners in their last 1.5 miles. There will be snacks, so you won’t want to miss out!
Take care and stay safe,
Jason Campbell-Foster, EdD
