Message to All Students in Residences

The following message was sent out to all students who reside in BU residences on Saturday, August 31, from Dean Campbell-Foster

Dear Residential Students:

The Residence Life Union representing our 300 Resident Assistants (RAs), Graduate Resident Assistants (GRAs) and Graduate Housing Assistants (GHAs) voted in favor of authorizing a strike that began today, August 31. This strike comes at a time of significant importance for you as residents of campus housing, and our focus remains on ensuring that you receive a high-level of service and care as you settle into your community for the fall semester.

Despite this action by the union, move-in operations will continue as planned throughout the weekend, and programs designed to help you become acquainted with one another will be held.

Not all GRAs, GHAs and RAs will withhold their labor during the strike. Some will choose to be available to you as they always have been, while others will not. Your RA may redirect you to the professional staff in your neighborhood, who remain available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Please visit your neighborhood residence life office for information about how the strike is impacting your residential community.

Your personal safety and wellbeing remain top of mind for us. The services of our security assistants and the Boston University Police Department are not impacted by the strike. Facilities related issues, including lockouts, can be directed to 617-353-2105. You can find other essential numbers by turning over your Terrier Card.

We are committed to fair, transparent, and respectful bargaining sessions that benefit both the university and our RAs. Significant progress has been made during regularly scheduled sessions, and we are awaiting counterproposals from the union that are critical to reaching an agreement. If you are interested in the status of the union negotiations, including the proposals that we have offered for their consideration, please visit this website.

Like you, our student employees are an important part of our residential community. Our attention remains on providing all of you with an exceptional living experience. Thank you for your patience while we navigate the strike period.

Take care,
Jason Campbell-Foster, EdD
Dean of Students
