Coffee & Conversation: Why Can’t We Talk about . . .
Love it when I’m deep in conversation, and then again when I’m in an impressive debate. But I put on my best act when the conversation turns to the US support for Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, Palestinians, Intifadas, Zionism, Judaism, or just the Middle East. Mentioning any of these topics gets real, real quick. I go silent – frustrated with an urge to jump into the conversation, but a practical need to stay out of any one camp. (I just don’t want to be accused of underplaying, sensationalizing, or being insensitive.)
I – we – just can’t talk about the Middle East. Why?
Join me Friday afternoon in the Howard Thurman Center – 3 to 5 p.m. – for coffee and a bit of conversation on the topic that cannot be spoken. Hopefully, this time around we can talk.
Peace.
