The Howard Thurman Center is Boston University's cultural center, based on the common ground philosophy of Dr. Howard Thurman.
The Center hosts cultural programs, activities and services designed to build community through self-exploration and shared experiences.
Our space in the lower level of the George Sherman Union is open and welcoming, so please
stop by to say hi and get a Thurman Center hug!

Do you know where this photo was taken? Join us this summer for COMMON GROUND ORIENTATION and see for yourself!
Wednesday's during freshman orientation, incoming students participating in the Common Ground program get to know their new city while making new friends from across the country and around the world.
The program sends students, armed with GPS devices, on an adventure through Boston to find various historical and cultural landmarks, such as the Boston Public Library, Old North Church, Boston Common, New England Aquarium, and Quincy Market.
Common Ground Orientation, based on Howard Thurman's belief that we have more in common with each other than we have differences, takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday during orientation.

 Join us all day on Tuesday, Sept. 1 for an open house at the Howard Thurman Center.
You'll get to meet our staff as well as reps from some of our 50 cultural student orgs!
We'll have plenty of info on upcoming receptions, programs, and events. But best of all, we'll have great music and free food for everyone!

Spectrum, BU's student org for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and allied community, has made the HTC it's home away from home. We'll be working closely with them this fall on an LGBT students welcome reception & National Coming Out Day. In the meantime, check out our GLBT Timeline from the 1500's-Present.

 Rosetta Stone at the Thurman Center
This year, more than 500 students used our free Rosetta Stone access to improve their skills in some 20 languages. We're taking a break for the summer, but Rosetta Stone will be back at the HTC this spring with even more languages!
