Boston University Wind Ensemble “Time & Place”

  • Starts: 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2026
  • Ends: 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 26, 2026
Boston University School of Music presents Boston University Wind Ensemble performing works that each transport the listener to a time and place. Both Holst and Montgomery experiment with superimposing the various musical and human “characters” found in their respective metropolis. BU School of Music is excited to host Montgomery for two week-long residencies during the Spring 2026 semester! This event is free and open to the public.

Quintessential Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach remains a central figure for the German city of Leipzig. These two wonderful transcriptions are among the many that Lucien Calliet crafted after he immigrated to the United States to play clarinet in the Philadelphia Orchestra. The program concludes with Poem du feu in which Ida Gotkovsky dramatically celebrates our species’ reverence for fire and the “legends making of fire a link between creature and his creator.”

• Holst: Hammersmith (1930)

• Montgomery: Coincident Dances (2019/2023)
