Delectability Meets Sustainability
From locally sourced ingredients to zero-waste events, see our blueprint for staying green
Catering on the Charles is committed to making environmentally conscious decisions in all aspects of our catering services while at the same time upholding the highest standard of food and service. We understand the impact our food choices have on the environment and our operations reflect that understanding and commitment.
We offer a variety of eco-friendly options, including reusable china, silverware, and glasses, as well as bulk condiments and cloth napkins. Food scraps from your meal’s preparation are collected for composting. Leftover food items are either composted or donated. When reusable serviceware is not a viable option, we provide bio-based compostable plates, utensils, and napkins. We also recycle plastic and glass bottles, cardboard, and paper.
Sourcing the freshest ingredients is also a priority. Whenever possible, we purchase local food and beverages. We’re also pleased to offer organic, vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free, and responsibly raised meat products.
Zero Waste events represent 100% of our staffed events. Almost all the waste generated by these events is diverted from the trash to recycling and compost. We do that by clearing the garbage cans off the floor of the event and replacing them with tray stands. Our trained wait staff then takes the waste behind the scenes and sorts it between recycling and compost. This is made possible by the compostable tableware that is used at every event (and the hard work and dedication of our team).
If an event in unstaffed, we offer a Zero Waste option for $10. We will provide sorting instructions and a compostable bag and clear bag for recycling for your guests to sort their waste. We will then pick up the bags at the end of your event and send them off to get composted and recycled. Just click this option the next time you order Charlie to Go, or let your event manager know. In order to ensure sorting success, let your guests know how to sort before they finish their food.
