Clinical Credentialing
Clinical Credentialing
All faculty who supervise students or residents in a clinical setting or teach dental medicine in a didactic setting are required to hold a valid dental license within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This may be a regular full dental license or take the form of a Limited License (location specific) through the MA Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID). If you require a Limited License, we will work with you to file an application with BORID to ensure that you are licensed prior to commencing employment.
In addition to licensure, all dentists on the faculty must submit evidence of CPR/Basic Life Support certification granted by the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association or an approved Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery organization. Recertification of BLS is offered periodically through the School at no charge to the faculty member.
HIPAA
Boston University and the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine maintain strict adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) law. All new employees must participate in HIPAA training and certification during the onboarding process, and renew their certification annually. This certification is required before employees will be provided with access to the SALUD clinical patient information system or other confidential patient clinical or financial data.

DEA Number and Insurance Credentialing
All clinical faculty members will be provided with access to SALUD, the School’s clinical patient information system. When a faculty member has produced evidence of licensure and CPR/BLS certification, the Office of Quality Assurance will issue them a provider-unique facility DEA number.
Because the School now accepts various types of insurance, we must register clinical providers with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Delta Dental of Massachusetts.
Department Specific Onboarding
Your department administrator will communicate any specific department policies and procedures. Clinical faculty will also be provided with information about how to order scrub sets, name tags and business cards.
