Mark is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He earned his BS in Biology from the University of Hartford, where he was also a Division 1 collegiate athlete. Following graduation, he played professional basketball overseas for two years before returning to the University of Hartford to complete a MS in Neuroscience. Mark received his Ph.D. from Northeastern University, where he conducted his dissertation research under the mentorship of Drs. Charles Hillman and Timothy Morris. His doctoral work employed advanced electroencephalographic (EEG) signal processing and novel analytical approaches to better characterize neurophysiological changes following traumatic brain injury (TBI).
His research focused on leveraging periodic and aperiodic spectral analyses of EEG to investigate alterations in brain dynamics after TBI, with the goal of improving our mechanistic understanding of injury-related neurophysiological dysfunction. He was also interested in evaluating aerobic exercise as a non-pharmacological intervention to promote neural recovery and improve cognitive outcomes following TBI.
