Bio
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Before joining the BU CTE Center, he spent 22 seasons working in communications and media relations for three Major League Baseball organizations. He served as Senior Director of Communications for the Miami Marlins for 13 seasons after previously working in baseball communications with the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox. Throughout his MLB career, he managed communication strategies while building relationships with players, coaches, front office executives, and local, national, and international media.
He joined the BU CTE Center in 2021 as Recruitment Coordinator for the Head Impact & Trauma Surveillance Study (HITSS). He currently leads outreach efforts for three of the Center’s major research initiatives, including the DIAGNOSE CTE-II Research Project and the BANK CTE Study, as well as HITSS. He develops and manages multi-channel recruitment campaigns across digital advertising, social media, email outreach, and community partnerships, while collaborating with former athletes, research participants, investigators, brain health foundations, and sports organizations to raise awareness of CTE and connect individuals with study participation opportunities and care resources.
