Cathy Della Lucia and Nicholas Anthony Mancini in Dialogue
January 21 – March 7, 2025
808 Gallery
Our vision constantly shifts, processing fragments of information to create a cohesive image of the world. This exhibition challenges how we interpret shape, color, texture, and space, inviting us to slow down and reconsider how we assemble meaning.
Cathy Della Lucia’s modular sculptures merge hand-finished wood, 3D-printed silicone, ceramics, and found objects. Using traditional Japanese joinery, these interactive pieces unfold and reassemble, reflecting her diverse experiences as a sculptor, former athlete, Korean-American adoptee, and woman in the U.S.
Nicholas Anthony Mancini explores perception through a unique process of translating images between print, photography, painting, and video. His series of paintings play with the contradictions of depicting three-dimensional space on a flat surface, revealing the accidental distortions that challenge our expectations of different media.
This exhibition highlights a decade-long conversation between Della Lucia (CFA’17) and Mancini (CFA’17), who met as MFA students at Boston University in 2015. Together, their works invite us to rethink how we make sense of the world around us.
