Summer Aid
Visit the Boston University Summer Term website for additional information about summer sessions.
Federal Loans
Summer financial aid is a separate process from the Fall & Spring semesters. A student may be eligible to borrow the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for Summer Term if they have not already exhausted their annual loan limit during the prior academic year, or if they are scheduled to graduate before the end of the next academic year.
Graduate students can borrow up to $20,500 annually, per academic year. If you have not already borrowed up to the annual maximum during the previous Fall & Spring semesters, you may request the remaining amount during Summer Term. Otherwise, the amount borrowed during Summer Term will count toward the annual maximum for the upcoming academic year.
At least half-time enrollment is required to qualify for an Unsubsidized Loan. To verify your enrollment status, email artaid@bu.edu.
To ensure eligibility for an Unsubsidized loan during Summer Term, you must complete the FAFSA for both the current academic year (24-25) and the upcoming academic year (25-26).
