Data Visualization Research Assistant
The Institute for Equity in Child Opportunity & Healthy Development at BU School of Social Work seeks a Research Assistant for a study on state-level tax credits inclusive of children in immigrant families. The candidate will translate research findings into clear, web-based interactive data visualizations and contribute to policy briefs and fact sheets. Required: strong data visualization skills, experience with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Flourish, R, Python, or JavaScript/D3, and the ability to read academic and policy research. This is a mentored UROP position at 8 to 10 hours/week for the fall, with weekly on-site meetings at BU, starting September 2026. Applications due September 6, 2026.

The successful candidate will maintain and develop Python web scrapers for news outlets, expand collection to track agricultural industry messaging, debug scrapers as publishers change their site structures, and perform quality control audits to ensure data accuracy and reproducibility. Required: proficiency in Python and web scraping, strong command-line skills, meticulous attention to detail, and familiarity with native advertising or sponsored content. This position is 10 hours/week at $22.65/hour, primarily remote with required weekly on-site team meetings at BU, starting September 2026.

Volunteer Opportunity
The SUMMIT Lab, in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences (900 Commonwealth Avenue), is seeking motivated students to join as volunteer Research Assistants. The lab focuses on improving adolescent well-being by strengthening caregiver and peer relationships, reducing substance use risk, and enhancing treatment outcomes for teens.
Research Assistants will contribute to data management, organization, and analysis across projects examining how caregivers can support teens in treatment and developing prevention programs for preadolescents receiving behavioral health care.
No prior research experience is required. Approx. 10 hours per week, with a flexible schedule based on availability. This position is ideal for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in psychological or related research.
