First Destination Survey FAQS
What is the First Destination Survey (FDS)?
Every year we ask graduating seniors (May, September and December graduates) for information about their post-graduation plans. Pursuing a particular passion? Attending graduate school? Starting a new job? Still looking for work? Completing this short survey will help Boston University share our students’ success stories and enhance career services for alumni and future Terriers.
Not sure of your next steps or need help with your job search? We’ve got you covered! Check out one of Boston University’s five career offices, providing both virtual and in-person appointments as well as on-demand resources:
- Boston University Center for Career Development. Serving CAS, CFA, Sargent, and Wheelock.
- COM Career Services
- ENG Career Development Office
- Feld Center for Career & Alumni Engagement
- SHA Marriott Career Center
How is the survey data used?
The information from this survey is used to identify the strengths of our many different programs and concentrations and to recruit new students. It is also submitted as part of accreditation reports and shared with NACE (National Association for Colleges and Employers). Information collected is completely private and identifying information is not shared with anyone except the data analysts reviewing the data and academic departments and colleges who are trying to increase the response numbers.
Can I still complete the survey if I don’t have a job yet?
Absolutely! You are invited to complete the FDS even if you haven’t yet finalized your post-graduation plans. You can go back in at anytime and update your responses when you find a job! As a recent graduate, the Center for Career Development’s services remain available to you as you search for your ideal post-graduation outcome.
What if I can’t access the survey?
Access to the survey is based on whether a student has applied for graduation. If you believe you should have access to the survey contact the registrar’s office to insure you are a candidate for graduation and then email future@bu.edu.
How can I access the FDS results from previous years?
You can view the results of previous First Destination Surveys reports on our Outcomes page.
