Class Year

2028

Major/Specialization

Cell Biology, Molecular Biology & Genetics

Where are you from?

Beijing, China

What is your favorite Biology or BMB course?

So far my favorite biology course has been BI394: RNA Therapeutics and Personalized Medicine with Dr. Fiszbein! We learned a lot about RNA biology and some really cool cutting-edge therapeutic approaches. I especially enjoyed the final project, where we developed our own research ideas and explored how basic science can be translated into clinical applications.

What kind of research have you done?

I’m currently doing research in Dr. Waldor’s lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. My research focuses on identifying and characterizing genetic factors that contribute to Salmonella systemic colonization and investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying their roles in bacterial pathogenesis.

How did you get your research position?

Cold emailing the professor and going through an interview!

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I volunteered in the pre-op and cardiology clinics at Boston Children’s Hospital during my freshman year, where I provided interactive games and read stories with young patients while they waited for their doctors, and also helped organize activities and holiday events. It was a really fun experience, and I would often get cute stickers and drawings from the kids :)

What is your favorite dining spot on or around campus?

Futago udon near fenway campus

What is your favorite BU memory?

Calling my friend at 11 pm to sit on a random bench in the dark near Metcalf and talk about my love-hate relationship with science (mostly love).

What’s one BU tip you wish you knew sooner?

Besides your major requirements, take more classes you’re genuinely interested in. The Hub units will naturally fall into place along the way.

What are your post-graduation plans?

Pursue a PhD in molecular biology and genetics.
