Brain Trauma and CTE
Neurologist Ann McKee discusses long-term consequences of head trauma in athletes and veterans
In this video, originally posted live on Facebook, neurologist Ann McKee discusses chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease found in athletes and veterans with a history of repetitive brain trauma. McKee, a professor of neurology and pathology at the Boston University School of Medicine, is the director of neuropathology for the Veterans Affairs New England Healthcare System and also directs BU’s Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center. She has examined hundreds of brains for signs of CTE and answers questions about sports, concussions, and her research in general. She says she won’t be watching the Super Bowl: “I didn’t watch football this year; I just can’t do it anymore.”
