BA/MA in Archaeology

Ran is interested in prehistoric ritual practices and human–animal relationships in Northeast China. In the summers of 2024 and 2025, she participated in consecutive field seasons at a Bronze Age period site in Inner Mongolia, which now serves as the basis for her MA thesis. Her broader research interests include China’s frontier archaeology, early state formation, social organization, and religion. Ran is a major in Archaeology, Minors in Anthropology and History (in process).
Ran’s paper, The Political Dimensions of Archaeology of the Han Dynasty: Ethnocentrism in Historical Texts and Its Impact on the Study of Southwest and South China, was recently accepted for publication by the Georgetown Journal of History (Fall 2025 issue).
