About
Kyra McFarland is an Indigenous Archaeologist focused on equity, repatriation, archaeological ethics, and community archaeology in the PNW. They are also interested in Zooarchaeology in the PNW and South Pacific Islands, and using Zooarchaeology and Paleoethnobotany to rebuild landscapes, foodways, and traditional knowledge. Their work is first and foremost based in working with local Indigenous peoples and advocacy work for stakeholders of the archaeological record. Kyra has worked previously on projects about Indigenous Intellectual Property at the University of Washington and the Burke Museum in Seattle and has worked in decolonizing museum and intellectual spaces. They attended the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington (2018-2020) and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Archaeological Sciences and Indigenous Archaeology, and minored in Oceania and Pacific Islander Studies.
