BA/MA in Archaeology, 2024
Jiatong Joe Pan has majored in archaeology and minored in Statistics, is completing the combined BA-MA program in Archaeology. Joe’s MA project focused on landscape survey and GIS work on the important Sino-American field project at Shangqiu (“Shang-chee-yo”) in the North China Plain. This project, established in 1990 as one of the very first Sino-American collaborative field projects since before WWII, explores the cultural development of China’s earliest Bronze Age dynasties, including the establishment of huge walled cities. Joe’s MA project brought important new research approaches and insights to what has previously been a very tradition-bound field of archaeological research in China.
