Dr. Eleonora Villegas-Reimers

Dr. Eleonora Villegas-Reimers, Clinical Professor and Chair, Teaching & Learning Department at BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development

Eleonora Villegas-Reimers is a faculty member and chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning at the Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. At the historic Wheelock College (before it merged with Boston University), she served as the dean of the School of Education and Child Life and chair of the Department of Elementary and Special Education. Her prior work includes experiences as a high-school teacher (teaching civics education to freshmen and sophomores, and sociology to seniors), an assistant principal, and as acting director of the Office of International Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Dr. Villegas-Reimers has also served as consultant to a number of international organizations such as UNESCO, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the Academy of Educational Development, the Universidad Diego Portales (Chile), and the Singapore National Institute of Education on matters related to education, teacher preparation and development, education for democracy, civic education, values education, and multiculturalism. Dr. Villegas-Reimers was a member of the Massachusetts State Department of Early Education and Care board (2010–21), served in several taskforces and committees associated with the MA Departments of Elementary and Secondary Education, Higher Education and the MA Executive Office of Education, and currently serves in the board of the Social-Emotional Learning Alliance for Massachusetts (SEL4MA) and its parent organization (SEL4US) board of directors.

Dr. Villegas-Reimers holds a Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and a bachelor’s degree in pedagogical sciences from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Venezuela.
