Boston University’s Center for Professional Education (CPE) offers a wide range of non-unit programs that are designed to provide expertise in various industry areas. Tailored to help busy professionals improve their professional skills, earn a credential, or make a career change, these programs are offered in a variety of formats—including online, in-person, and hybrid—to accommodate different schedules and learning preferences.
The Evergreen program brings students ages 58 and above back to campus to audit classes and attend curated seminar events. This program is designed to provide an opportunity for lifelong learning and personal enrichment.
Financial Planning (online)
For almost 40 years, the Financial Planning program at Boston University has been providing a comprehensive approach to financial planning education. The program offers a highly respected credential, rigorous academic foundation, and excellent preparation for the Certified Financial Planner™ exam. Whether you’re looking to advance your financial planning career or simply want to learn more about the field, this program is the perfect choice for you.
Available online, the Financial Planning program consists of the following seven courses:

Genealogy Studies (online)
The Genealogy Studies program adheres to rigorous industry standards and incorporates cutting-edge genealogical technologies and research methods. The Genealogical Principles course is designed for novice researchers who want to learn more about the field and how to cite their findings accurately. Genealogical Practicum is our latest course, aimed at intermediate-to-advanced researchers who want to enhance their work product. The Certificate in Genealogical Research course is intended for experienced researchers who want to take their skills to the next level. Taught by some of the leading genealogists in the country, the program trains students to identify and evaluate evidence, develop research strategies, and write high-quality reports. It also provides excellent preparation for those who wish to obtain certification through the Board for Certification of Genealogists®.
Available online, the Genealogy Studies program consists of the following three courses:

Paralegal Studies (online)
Boston University’s Paralegal Studies certificate program provides a comprehensive introduction to legal theory and practical experience with state-of-the-art technologies. The program covers a wide range of topics, including legal research, legal writing, real estate law, business law, litigation, and probate and family law. For almost 40 years, the program has offered a term-long curriculum that provides a solid foundation for launching a career in the field of paralegal studies.

Professional Fundraising (online)
The Professional Fundraising certificate program equips students with the skills and knowledge to excel in the ever-evolving field of nonprofit fundraising. Participants explore the essential elements of a comprehensive development program and gain proficiency in strategic planning, prospect research, volunteer leadership, and all forms of giving and stewardship. Additionally, the program offers 84 continuing education points, which are necessary to take the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) exam.

Real Estate Studies (on campus)
For students who wish to expand their knowledge in commercial real estate—whether on the funding, leasing, or facilities side—the Real Estate Studies program provides practical information that can lead to personal and organizational effectiveness. You can take a single course for personal growth or several courses to earn a professional certificate. Certificate programs include Commercial Real Estate, Real Estate Finance, and Facilities Management. Many real estate professionals in the Greater Boston community and beyond are alumni of this nearly 40-year-old program.
If you successfully earn a CPE certificate in Commercial Real Estate or Real Estate Finance, you will be granted a waiver of two graduate elective courses (8 units) toward the Master of City Planning program.

The Evergreen program at Boston University is designed for learners ages 58 and above who wish to continue their education and expand their knowledge. The program offers the opportunity to audit undergraduate and graduate courses at one of the world’s top-ranked universities as well as participate in topical seminars that are tailored to the interests of the “evergreen” community.
