Boston University and Boston Medical Center comprise a vast array of resources for industry. The links below provide a quick connections to programs in administration of corporate interactions (e.g. sponsored research agreements) as well as programs in designated technical fields that focus on corporate outreach.
Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations
The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations is an integral component of Boston University's Office of University Development and Alumni Relations and manages the University’s relationships with corporate and foundation donors. It works to obtain financial support from corporations and foundations for high-priority University projects and programs. The department works closely with faculty and administrators to identify prospects, to create effective solicitation strategies, and to develop proposals that match corporate and foundation interests with University initiatives.
Office of Sponsored Programs
The Office of Sponsored Programs on the Charles River Campus administers external grants and contracts for faculty research and training projects and offers extensive resources and services to faculty who are identifying outside sponsors, preparing grant proposals, and managing externally-funded projects.
Office of Research Administration
The Office of Research Administration (ORA) supports and assists members of the Boston University Medical Campus community in the identification of sponsored funding opportunities, preparation of proposals, securing protocol approvals, drafting /negotiation of sponsored agreements and administration of funds awarded. ORA is committed to working effectively with principal investigators, departmental administrators and others to ensure granting agency requirements are met and to serve the research mission of Boston University Medical Campus.
Office of Clinical Research
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) was established on July 1, 1998 to serve as the central focus for clinical research support, conduct and training at Boston University Medical Center. The OCR seeks to serve the needs of investigators who are engaged in the entire spectrum of clinical research including translational (pathogenesis-based) studies, clinical trials, cohort studies, clinical epidemiology, outcomes research, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
Center for Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology
The new Center for Nanoscience and Nanobiotechnology is established to advance academic and technological research and development in nanoscience and nanobiotechnology. The Center serves as a hub for nanoscience researchers from the Charles River and Medical Campuses and build activities that develop interdisciplinary research and training. The Center will connect scientists from disparate disciplines with each other in seminars, meetings, joint visitor programs and seeded projects to enhance the development of interdisciplinary nanoscale research. The Center will also build linkages between the research and technological commercialization resources at BU including the Photonics Center, the Technology Commercialization Institute, and Fraunhofer and with external partners and industrial affiliates.
Department of Computer Science Industrial Affiliates Program
The Industrial Affiliates Program (IAP), established in the Fall of 2000, aims to allow a better, more efficient, and more effective partnership between Boston University Computer Science (BUCS) and members of the IT industry.
Center for Information and Systems Engineering (CISE)
CISE provides a home across departments for faculty and students interested in information and systems engineering methodologies and their relevance to application domains encompassing the analysis, design, and management of complex systems. CISE also launch the Sensor Network Consortium, a collaborative to foster research in sensor networks and facilitate the interaction among academia and industry as well as between industry participants, provides an interesting mix of companies: start-ups, system integrators, users and a variety of small and large corporations whose strategic business opportunities relate to this emerging technology.
