Dr. Roh majored in Korean Language & Literature in her B.A., Korean Linguistics in her M.A., Applied Linguistics in her second M.A., and Educational Media Technology in her Ed.D. Dr. Roh’s research interests include acquisition of Korean as a second language and designing and developing effective and innovative instructional methods in teaching Korean with the inclusion of culture. She is an author of multiple Korean language learning materials: Speaking-oriented Korean language learning courses Pimsleur Language Program Korean 1 and Pimsleur Language Program Korean 2, which have been published both in the United States and in Japan with Simon & Schuster Publishing Company in 2004-2011. She also authored a Korean language textbook Living Language Series: Korean with Random House in 2007. In the department, she teaches Korean language courses at all levels and a cultural course LK283 Korean Cinema in English translation. Dr. Roh is responsible for coordinating all Korean language courses at Boston University from the first to the fourth year, recruiting and training Korean lecturers, and expanding course offerings by continuously developing new courses for upper level Korean studies. Her prior teaching experience includes teaching Korean Literature and Culture for international students at Seoul National University, teaching English literacy skills for immigrant parents and children in Chelsea-Boston School District. She has been teaching Korean language and culture courses at Boston University since 2003. Her current research projects are: effects of authentic video use in a language classroom, creating standards in assessing Korean language skills, foreign language instructional material development with machines. Dr. Roh is an active member and regular contributor of American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and American Association of Teachers of Korean (AATK).  She is a certified Korean oral proficiency tester and works closely with multiple US government agencies under the subjects of the language proficiency, standards, and assessments.
