Graduation with Honors

School of Dental Medicine Policy for Predoctoral Students

Four-year DMD students who have excelled academically over seven semesters will receive recognition on their diplomas and in the commencement program. If a student qualifies for honors after completion of the program, they may request a new diploma with the noted recognition. Summa Cum Laude will be awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or above. Magna Cum Laude will be awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.79. Cum Laude will be awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.2 to 3.49.

Transfer students are eligible if they have no grade lower than a B on their previous dental transcript and have maintained the appropriate GPA since transferring.

Advanced Standing students who have excelled academically over three semesters will receive recognition on their diplomas and in the commencement program. If a student qualifies for honors after completion of the program, they may request a new diploma with the noted recognition. High Honors will be awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or above. Honors will be awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of 3.55 to 3.69.
