Stephanie Mikelis

Part-Time Instructor

Dr. Stephanie Mikelis is a part-time lecturer in the Language & Literacy Education Department at BU Wheelock, where she teaches courses for pre- and in-service teachers in the ESL licensure program. Her research centers on scaffolding strategies that promote reasoning-based, collaborative discourse among linguistically diverse K-12 learners in mainstream classrooms. Her broader teaching and research interests include content-based language education, second language writing pedagogy, and teacher education.

Dr. Mikelis also serves as an ELL instructional coach in a high school setting, where she offers professional development and collaborates with educators to create equitable and inclusive learning environments for multilingual learners through research-based, culturally responsive practices. She is passionate about fostering inclusive educational practices that empower both teachers and students to thrive in today’s diverse and dynamic learning communities.

Before assuming these roles, Dr. Mikelis served as a preceptor for Harvard University’s Institute for English Language Programs for over a decade. Additionally, she taught academic writing and communication skills to international students at Boston University’s Arts and Sciences Writing Program.
