
Shonda Pettiford
Doctoral Student
Shonda Pettiford is a doctoral student in the Executive EdD in Higher Education Leadership program at BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her capstone project examines the structures in higher education that attract and retain partnered faculty and staff. Her work will evaluate existing spouse/partner policies and practices, and propose models that support institutions’ recruitment and retention goals.
Professionally, Shonda serves as director of operations and assistant treasurer at the Five College Consortium, where she fosters collaboration among partnering higher education institutions. Her leadership role focuses on ensuring that the organization’s people, properties, and business practices function in full support of its collaborative mission. Shonda also serves as a trustee at Greenfield Community College as part of a board that establishes policy and stewards the financial health of the institution. Before joining Five Colleges, Shonda held roles as CEO of a web design and marketing firm, a communications director, and a leader in community service learning.
Shonda is a proud alumna of two members of the Five College Consortium. Driven by a deep commitment to advancing social justice for women and girls, Shonda has also held multiple volunteer leadership roles within women- and girl-serving organizations in her western Massachusetts community.
