Scott Benjamin

Part-Time Instructor

Dr. Scott Benjamin is a part-time instructor at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. He is a full-time professor at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, where he has taught biology, environmental science, and sports psychology for over 20 years. His recent research interests include data analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic and digital storytelling in biology courses to drive discussion of racial inequity and inclusion, the use of “resource-based” models to frame student learning about natural selection, the lives of undocumented student-athletes, and the influence of athletics on retention of underserved and underrepresented Black and Latino male student athletes.

Dr. Benjamin has developed and taught several new courses, including cross-curricular cluster sequences with environmental science/political/science/writing, a tropical field ecology study-abroad program in Costa Rica, and population ecology, to name a few. As the head coach of men’s soccer at BHCC for 17 years, he won 10 NJCAA regional titles, two Final Four finishes and a national runner-up. He was named the US Northeast Coach of the Year twice. He works as a youth soccer consultant, is a certified speaker for the Positive Coaching Alliance, and runs youth camps that promote the cultural wealth of underrepresented communities.
