Paul Akoury
Associate Director, Field Education
Dr. Paul Akoury provides leadership and strategic thinking in all areas relating to field education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. He is part of the Professional Preparation team that is helping to centralize services pertaining to licensure and accreditation as well as program assessment and continuous improvement. He collaborates with faculty and staff to enhance field operations; to define criteria and processes for field partnerships; and to streamline resources for student success in all phases of their field experience.
Dr. Akoury’s interests and background integrate arts, psychology, and philosophy into authentic educational practice. Previously, he directed the field office at historic Wheelock College, where he instituted discipline-specific and interdisciplinary processes to build better connections across programs and elevate the focus on field pedagogy. He also supported day-to-day operations in the program development and public policy initiatives of an educational nonprofit serving more than two hundred school districts. Dr. Akoury was a public school elementary teacher who conducted teacher research on sociocultural theory in the upper primary writing curriculum and who integrated fine arts into early childhood education.
