Postdoctoral Associate
Dr. Kaj Kraus is a postdoctoral associate in the Deaf Center at the Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. He studies how language and cognitive development are shaped by perceptual experience, language input, and modality.
His current work spans three projects that investigate: 1) how early language skills relate to later language skills in deaf and hard of hearing children; 2) how early language planning relates to language outcomes in deaf and hard of hearing children; and 3) how iconicity influences sign language learning.
He earned a PhD in Linguistics from Gallaudet University with a dissertation titled “Investigating relationships between L1 English reading comprehension, nonverbal working memory, and L2 ASL receptive comprehension in deaf and hard of hearing adults.” He received a Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement grant from the National Science Foundation for this work.
