Damara Reid

Doctoral Student

Damara Reid is a doctoral student in educational leadership & policy studies at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her research interests include exploring the role educators of color play in fostering an inclusive environment, serving as role models, and addressing diverse student needs, in education.

Damara has eleven years of experience in the field of education at Boston Public Schools. Eight of those years were spent at her alma mater, Brighton High School. During her tenure at Brighton High, she held two significant roles: dean of students and director of early college and career pathways. In the latter role, she planned and implemented the Early College and Health Science pathway, with a focus on increasing college access for English language learners and students with IEPs. It is one of two pathways that aim to inspire students to focus on their careers and attain industry-recognized credentials upon graduation.

Damara has presented her expertise in developing early college programs at the One Goal Partnership Summit and the Reach Higher Early College. Her career aspirations include starting her own school, advocating for educational equity at both the state and federal levels, and addressing the under-representation of teachers of color in the public school system. She believes that it is essential for students of color to have representation both inside and outside the classroom and hopes to help increase the amount of educators of color in public education.
