Barry Rosenwasser is a program supervisor in special education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. He supervises and mentors students seeking their teaching licensure in their pre-practicum and full practicum placements. In addition, he supports students doing a field placement for their special education minor.
Mr. Rosenwasser has been in the field of special education since 1979. He was a teacher for seven years in private school programs before continuing his teaching career in the Brookline Public Schools in 1986. His work in Brookline focused on facilitating the inclusion of students with complex needs related to their disabilities in general education classrooms.
Mr. Rosenwasser ran a PreK–8th grade inclusion program from 1986–1995. Beginning with the 1995–96 school year, he was a co-teacher in a fully inclusive PreK classroom run by the Brookline Early Education Program (BEEP). Retired from his full-time teaching position in Brookline since 2017, he continues to work occasionally as a substitute teacher at BEEP.
Mr. Rosenwasser was the first recipient of the Ari Award, given annually to an educator in Brookline whose work promoted a model for successful inclusion. In addition, he received a Heroes Among Us award in April 2009 from the Boston Celtics for his work supporting students with varied levels of abilities and needs.
