Support Learning with a Teacher of Student with Moderate Disabilities Certificate

With a graduate certificate in teaching students with moderate disabilities, you’ll be able to seek licensure in Massachusetts as a teacher of students with mild to moderate disabilities. The Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities Add-On Licensure (PreK–2, PreK–8, or 5–12) graduate certificate will enable you to create educational curricula and environments to support students with disabilities. This graduate certificate is for:

  • Educators who already hold valid initial or professional teacher licensure who are seeking add-on licensure in special education
  • Educators who are currently enrolled in a licensure-granting program who are seeking to add a licensure in special education

Program Pathways

The graduate certificate in teaching students with moderate disabilities is a flexible program, with courses that can be taken both online and in person. Begin the program in any semester.

Licensure in Special Education

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Moderate Disabilities program can receive endorsement for licensure to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office of Educator Licensure.

Gain Meaningful Field Experience

The Teaching Students with Moderate Disabilities graduate certificate includes a student teaching practicum, where you’ll gain direct experience teaching students with moderate disabilities before working in your own classroom.

Dr. Zachary Rossetti’s research focuses on social inclusion and belonging of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). His research also examines the experiences of families with children with IDD by centering on participation and language access in IEP meetings, family-professional partnerships of culturally and linguistically diverse families, family advocacy, community participation, and sibling roles and relationships. Central to all of his research is the context of inclusive education for students with IDD.
