BU Email provides email mailboxes and associated mail services for over 260,000 faculty, staff, students, affiliates and alumni at Boston University.  The primary application for faculty, staff, affiliates and some students is Microsoft M365 Exchange Online.  Most students and some faculty, staff and affiliates are issued Google Gmail mailboxes.  BU Email can be used to send and receive email from both internal and external parties.

What to Expect

This service normally will be available 24 by 7 except for standard change windows, as described in IS&T’s standard policies, procedures, and schedules for making changes.

Requirements

Getting Started

  • Accounts for new Faculty and Staff will be provisioned during employment onboarding, along with the BU login name and Kerberos password.
  • New students should create an account after acceptance; we have instructions for creating a Google Apps account.
  • Students who are in an academic program that requires Office 365 Outlook use will receive the information they need from their program administrator. Please submit a Help request if you need additional information or assistance.
  • Non-BU affiliates who demonstrate a business need for BU email can be sponsored for an affiliate account. Please have your sponsor complete the affiliate account request form.
  • Department representatives seeking a Departmental/Service account should submit a shared account creation request.
  • Student organizations must have a BU sponsor for group email accounts.
