Microsoft offers a similar product to Zoom Rooms called Microsoft Teams Rooms. For departments and individuals with Zoom Rooms, planning and considerations are already underway to provide a smooth transition.
Planning and Transitioning
Timeline and Communication
Will I be able to continue using our Zoom Rooms during the transition?
Yes, your existing Zoom Rooms will continue to work during the transition. That said, because transitioning to Teams Rooms will require on-site visits and other resourcing, IS&T is encouraging departments to complete their transitions throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
What communication can I expect to receive from IS&T during the transition?
IS&T will be connecting with room owners to provide additional information about your room's readiness, recommended transition timeline, and other resources in October.
I received an email in May about end-of-life Zoom Rooms hardware. Do I still need to act on this?
Yes, the same Android end-of-life timeline applies to Microsoft Teams Rooms. Any equipment you were notified about in May will still need to be replaced by September 2027.
Can I still request a new Zoom Room during the transition?
No, IS&T will not be building any new Zoom Rooms at this time. Our Learning & Event Technology Services group will work you to design a new Microsoft Teams Room or transition any open Zoom Rooms projects in the design phase.
Can I see a demo of a Microsoft Teams Room before transitioning?
Yes, a demo room will be available at the IT Help Center. Please contact us if you would like to schedule a visit.
Costs
Will I need to purchase Microsoft Teams Rooms licenses for my Zoom Rooms?
No, IS&T will be transitioning to a centrally-funded licensing model for Microsoft Teams Rooms.

Hardware
Will my existing equipment work with Microsoft Teams Rooms?

IS&T is actively engaged with Microsoft on how to best transition personal Zoom Rooms to the Microsoft Teams Rooms platform and will provide guidance as it becomes available.
Calendaring
Can Microsoft Teams Rooms connect to a Google Calendar?
No, Microsoft Teams Rooms only work with Exchange resource account calendars.
We use 25Live to schedule our Zoom Rooms. Do I still need a resource calendar?
Yes, Microsoft Teams Rooms requires an underlying Exchange resource account, even if it will not be used for scheduling.
Can I hide my room's resource calendar or restrict how it is booked?
Yes, Exchange supports many options for restrictions, including delegated, manual approvals; automated, rule-based approvals; and automatic replies.
My existing Zoom Room doesn't have an Exchange calendar. Should I request one now?
IS&T will connect with room owners in October with next steps for updating existing or creating new Exchange resource calendars.
